Emergency Water Damage Tips!

When water damage does strike here are some tips you can use before your SERVPRO of Racine County professional arrives to your home or business.

1. Make sure to shut-off water source, if possible or contact a qualified professional to stop the water source ASAP.
2. Turn-off circuit breakers for wet areas of the building when access to the power distribution panel is safe from electrical shock.
3. Remove as much excess water as possible by mopping and blotting.
4. Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting.
5. Move any paintings, art objects, computer documents, and other sensitive valuables to a dry place.
6. Do not enter affected areas if electrical outlets, switches, circuit breakers, or electrical equipment are exposed to water.
7. Always avoid electrical shock hazards. Do not use your household vacuum cleaner to remover water! This could cause an electrical shock or damage the device.
8. Do not turn on ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet or enter rooms where ceilings are sagging from retained water.
